Proximity sensor issues on the iPhone 4 are still not fixed
When Apple first announced the iPhone 4, people said that it would be the best smartphone ever. The device has lived up to the expectations but it does have a few problems. Proximity sensor was one of them. For people who are new to the world of cell phones, the proximity sensor is a feature which automatically locks the screen when you put the device too close to your ears. This is done in order to block the display from accidental touches. The phone gets unlocked again when you take it away from the ear The proximity sensor is found in almost all touch screen smartphones because it is really important. Apple iPhone 4 has some problems with the proximity sensor. Users often complained that the sensor didn’t work correctly sometimes. It didn’t lock the screen and hence the display was prone  [...]

Acer Aspire 5700-U2112 – big 23 inch screen
Acer Aspire 5700-U2112 – big 23 inch screen
Acer Aspire 5700-U2112 is an all in one desktop PC and it is the successor of the older Z5600 which the manufacturer gave us at the end of 2009. This computer comes with a 23 inch display and costs $1,099. It is a good alternative if you don’t want to splash cash on the more expensive 21.5 inch Apple iMac. The iMac costs $1,199 and it is slower than the Acer machine. There is HDMI port on the Acer all-in-one which lets you use the system as an entertainment PC. Apple is ahead only in terms of design and I will recommend you the Acer all-in-one if you don’t care much about beauty. This is an excellent and versatile system. I just have one gripe about the Acer Aspire 5700-U2112 – the front support posts. They work well but look a bit cheap, like a homemade repair job product. Apart from  [...]

RIM offers forum to avoid the BlackBerry ban in India
RIM offers forum to avoid the BlackBerry ban in India
Research in Motion (RIM) suggested in industry forum to address India’s demand to have access to the encrypted data on BlackBerry’s servers. This is done by the company to avoid the ban on its devices. RIM looks at India as the world’s fastest growing telecoms market and hence is desperate to avoid the ban. Executives from RIM have held a lot of meetings with the Indian government officials in order to find some solution to the problem. India say that they want access to the encrypted data which might be misused by terrorists for creating political instability. RIM said that they will be leading an industry form which focuses on supporting the needs for law enforcement agencies and will still protect the legitimate security information of big organizations and corporations. RIM also urged  [...]

Motorola Milestone XT720 – Sluggish performance
Motorola Milestone XT720 – Sluggish performance
Motorola Milestone XT720 is powered by Android 2.1 which is a dated version. You do get all the Android goodies like Gmail, Google Maps Navigation, Google Talk, QuickOffice, and dedicated YouTube app. The manufacturer said the Android 2.2 update will be provided soon but they didn’t reveal the date. Android 2.1 aka Froyo will give you features like voice dialing over Bluetooth, Flash 10.1 support, etc. Motorola Milestone XT720, just like most Android phones, can sync with IMAP, POP3, Gmail and Exchange accounts. It also pulls contacts from social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook. The handset gives you separate apps for corporate directory and corporate calendar. I tried setting up my Gmail, Facebook and Outlook Web Access accounts and the process was quite smooth. You need to enter  [...]

Nokia Twist 7705 – Never before seen design
Nokia Twist 7705 – Never before seen design
Nokia Twist 7705 has a unique design, I have never seen anything like this before in a cell phone and I am not sure if you will like it or not. The phone has a square shape with a swivel design. It is a bit wider than standard phones and hence the handset may not feel comfortable in your pocket. On the bright side, if you want to attract some stares while you are on the streets, this is a great phone for you. The gadget also has a thin profile and sits quite nicely in your palms. The screen of the Nokia Twist 7705 is the same as that of a mid range phone but you won’t see as many lines at a time because of the design of the handset. This is not a deal breaker because the phone is made for the youth generation anyways. I won’t recommend this phone to businessmen. Below the display, there  [...]

Samsung Haven – Made for senior citizens
Samsung Haven – Made for senior citizens
Samsung Haven is a phone made for senior citizens and hence it is quite low on features. This phone is made for people who just want to make phone calls and may send a few text messages. It doesn’t even have a camera so you pretty much get the idea about how basic the phone is. Don’t expect any fancy features on the phone but there are a few interesting tools. This handset is dark gray and black and it has the typical boxy design. The back is quite slick and the handset feels great to hold in the hand. On the sides, there are grooves which give you a better feel in the hand while gripping the device. You can place your thumb in this groove for flipping open the phone easily. The groove also houses your fingers well when the phone is opened while you are on a call. This phone has a clamshell  [...]

Droid 2 photos leaked on the Internet by Verizon, again
Droid 2 photos leaked on the Internet by Verizon, again
Droid 2 photos have been leaking a lot on Internet but I am certainly not complaining about it. Tech enthusiasts like me drool on such photos for hours. I am putting up the photo that I found on the Internet and according to me, the gadget looks really sexy. This is a QWERTY enabled phone so typing long messages on the phone will not be a chore. QWERTY keyboards make messaging easy but then I have one complaint. The phones with QWERTY keyboard have a slider interface and this slider design makes the phone a bit thick. So you might struggle keeping the phone in your pocket. But then you cannot have best of both worlds, one has to be sacrificed for the sake of another. If you are a BlackBerry fan, I have some more news for you. The company might launch the Storm 3 and Curve 3 during holidays  [...]

Apple’s iTV loses the 1080p video playback but gains apps
Apple’s iTV loses the 1080p video playback but gains apps
Before this, I blogged about the updated Apple TV and said that it was going to come in the market soon. I also said that there would be set top box worth $99 with the dimension similar to the iPhone 4. It would have an A4 processor with 16 GB internal storage space. Apple was also rumored to bring new iTunes streaming services which the box could use. I have got some more news for you about it and I am afraid it is a bad one. The box cannot handle 1080p or 1080i video content which will certainly disappoint videophiles. The TV can play 720p video content well but the quality is not the same. This is certainly a deal breaker for people who cannot compromise on video quality but I guess hardcore Apple fans will accept it after some initial sulking. I think the problem here is with the processor.  [...]
