Bebook Neo – Tons of file formats supported
Bebook Neo – Tons of file formats supported
Bebook Neo is quite hefty and it was the first thing that I noticed about it. I am not saying that the device is extraordinarily heavy but the weight as almost the same as paperback which is about twice as thick. This increase in weight is due to the aluminum chassis with white clean black façade. It gives a nice aesthetic feel to the Bebook Neo and it feels solid too. However, the aluminum body’s tactile impression is a bit unpleasant – it is rough and cold. The Bebook Neo has a navigation pad on the front along with 2 concentric rings which mount the central button. The look is streamlined and I’m glad that the manufacturer put all the navigation in a single place. Things get really easy once you get to know how to get around the menus. Outer ring resizes the fonts and turns the pages  [...]

iRiver Story review – Great device but no Wi-Fi
iRiver Story review – Great device but no Wi-Fi
Ebook readers are kinda controversial in the world of gadgets and in this iRiver story review, I will say that the device has a sharp, clear screen with a lot of storage space and there are plenty of supported file formats too. Apart from that, there are added goodies like text-editing capability, voice recording and music playback. The cost of the device is £200 and it is priced competitively. If you are the kind of person who doesn’t like ebook readers, stop reading this article now. There is nothing in this iRiver story review that will change your opinion. Some people still prefer real books because of the cost and durability as opposed to the ebook readers which are delicate and costly. For that reason, I was disappointed to see that the manufacturer doesn’t provide a dust jacket  [...]

Kindles E Ink Pearl Display is Fantastic
Kindles E Ink Pearl Display is Fantastic
Kindles E-Ink Pearl display is the most impressive achievement of this device apart from the slashed price and the reduced size. The gadget is a pleasure to hold in the hands. I bet that if you read Kindles for about 10 to 20 pages you will forget the standard books forever. Even turning the pages on the electronic device seems natural. The screen of the Kindles has increased the contrast, decreased the refresh rate and the battery life too is increased. You will get enough battery juice for about a month. This is perhaps the only gadget out there now which has a such a long battery life. The less refresh rate gives you faster page turns which will go well with people who lack patience. Kindles device is like a book that is digitally evolved. Reading books on it is a different experience to  [...]

Sony Reader Pocket Edition PRS-350SC – Touch screen display
Sony Reader Pocket Edition PRS-350SC – Touch screen display
This is the second generation of Sony’s pocket e-book readers and the newer model is sleeker and more compact as compared to its predecessor. The internal memory has been upgraded to two gigabytes and now has a touch screen interface. The contrast of the display has been improved too which lets you read the text more clearly. Amazon too recently increased the contrast of its display and hence I think Sony also followed this maneuver in order to improve the screen. Sony Reader Pocket Edition PRS-350SC weighs just five ounces and its touch screen interface is not the big news here rather it is that engineers at Sony have finally gotten it right here for the screen quality. It is improved because a layer on the screen has been removed which ruined the contrast and also caused issues of screen  [...]

Amazon Kindle (3G, Wi-Fi, graphite) – Longer battery life, more memory
We all know the prowess of Amazon Kindle in the ebook reader market. Kindle along with iPad are the best selling ebook readers in the world at the moment. Amazon frequently gives updated models putting in a few more features than the predecessor. This version of Kindle is lighter and the display size too has been made small. The previous model had a six inch display and a smaller screen here means that it is easier to carry around. The size and design has been changed but apart from that, Amazon has also thrown in 3G and Wi-Fi. There are two models for this device – one has both Wi-Fi and 3G where as the other one has just Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi with 3G model will cost you $189 and the Wi-Fi only model will put you back by $139. There are two options for color – white and graphite. I got the  [...]

Kobo eReader – No Wi-Fi or 3G
Kobo eReader – No Wi-Fi or 3G
Kobo eReader has the same six inch display as the Amazon Kindle and the Nook but the Kobo product has a more down to earth approach and it only has basic features in it. People who are on a stiff budget and want an ebook reader will certainly welcome these devices even if they have cut some corners. Not everyone can afford to buy the full fledged Amazon Kindle and most importantly, there are some who don’t need all the features so why spend extra money on it? Kobo eReader for such people. Kobo eReader doesn’t have Wi-Fi or 3G wireless connectivity. But there is Bluetooth for syncing this device along with a compatible cell phone for updating the reading lists. For storing your books, there in one GB of internal memory, which is really big. eBooks don’t take a lot of space and hence you  [...]

Barnes & Noble Nook (Wi-Fi) – Best deal
Barnes & Noble Nook (Wi-Fi) – Best deal
Pricing of an electronic product has become very important these days especially because the competition is getting quite stiff. A difference of $100 or $50 from other products having similar features will certainly spell doom for the more expensive device. Barnes & Noble seem to have acknowledged this fact with the new Wi-Fi only version of its e-book reader which costs $149. The Barnes & Noble Nook 3G costs $199 and the difference between this and the Wi-Fi model is that the latter doesn’t have cellular radio. The weight too is reduced with the cut in feature set. The removable back cover is now white instead of traditional gray. Apart from these couple of changes, both the products are quite similar. If you are looking for alternatives in this price range, there is Sony Reader  [...]

Cool-er e-book reader – Low end build quality
Cool-er e-book reader – Low end build quality
Amazon Kindle is the most popular and best selling e-book reader in the market right now and its competitors are trying hard to topple it from the number one spot. Cool-er e-book reader is such an attempt but we won’t say it is a good one. The device costs $250 as compared to the $360 priced Kindle. The feature set has been trimmed down in order to keep the price low but still you have everything that you need desperately in such a device. Cool-er name stands for cool ebook reader and the highlights of the device is the low price, good options for colors (you have 8 different choices) and the supported formats are more than a what you get in Kindle. Cool-er e-book reader is as good as Kindle when it comes to readability and screen size and you have an SD card slot too. The battery is  [...]
