This is recent news; our sources tell us that Microsoft has announced to withdraw Kin from European markets after just months of its US release. Microsoft has rolled the team of Kin in to Windows 7 phone and the company will now pay more attention to the Windows 7 handset. The phone was going to be launched in Europe but the company has cancelled it owing to poor sales at home. The manufacturer also said that they will looking to put the technologies of Kin in to the Windows 7 phones to make the new product better.

The Kin was targeted towards youth; it was a handset made for social networking enthusiasts. This handset had another sibling – the Kin Two and it was the first Windows phone to have Zune multimedia experience. The handset was made to be used both as a cell phone and a music player. There was five megapixel camera which gave a good quality images and there were plenty of options for tweaking too. We had got this phone in our labs for reviewing and we really liked the features it had to offer. Maybe the design didn’t go well with the customers. The Kin was a bit small and it is totally different from what you have seen before. Both these phones had a slider design and they had full QWERTY keyboard underneath for typing those long messages.

Our only problem with the phone was the 600MHz Tegra APX2600 which was a bit slow and didn’t manage handle all the apps well. The slowdown happened only when we opened up a lot of apps. The speed was fine with just one or two applications running. It is a pity that Europe won’t get to see this phone; it wasn’t spectacular but there was nothing too bad about it either.
