Research in Motion (RIM) suggested in industry forum to address India’s demand to have access to the encrypted data on BlackBerry’s servers. This is done by the company to avoid the ban on its devices. RIM looks at India as the world’s fastest growing telecoms market and hence is desperate to avoid the ban. Executives from RIM have held a lot of meetings with the Indian government officials in order to find some solution to the problem. India say that they want access to the encrypted data which might be misused by terrorists for creating political instability.

RIM said that they will be leading an industry form which focuses on supporting the needs for law enforcement agencies and will still protect the legitimate security information of big organizations and corporations. RIM also urged the government to re-think about the ban. They say that singling out the Canadian phone giant like this would have adverse effects for productivity and efficiency of local firms. The company further said that they co-operate and support the security requirements of the Asian country.

The Indian government said that Home Secretary Gopal Pillai will be presented a report on Saturday and the government will take the final decision (of whether to ban the RIM phones or not) by this Monday. Governments all around the world have recently getting very much concerned about the encrypted services of BlackBerry. They could be misused for either pornography or terrorist activities.

An Indian official last week said that they may allow access to the RIM messenger service after the cell phone giant assured them of manual access to the instant messages by September 1. They would also give automated access by this November. Sachin Pilot, India’s junior telecoms minister said that they would ban the BlackBerry is either parties didn’t settle down on a solution.
